I asked you if you would still respect me
You told me not to worry
That you would take my fears away
With every stroke of pain you caused
We lay nestled on the grass as nature witnessed this union
Planes flew over our heads
You laid your jacket down as you punctured me on a bed of flowers
I opened for you like daisies in full bloom
Your eyes pierced into mine as you removed all guilt with your fingertips
Your lips replaced pillows on this makeshift bed
My brown eyes were fixated on the blue skyline after every deep breath that was exhaled
My thoughts resembled cumulus clouds
I held on as you pulled me closer
I clenched on the grass for support
The sun went down but you continued to rise
As we lay there intertwined...

My Thoughts On People Whom Say: 'Natural Hair Is A Trend..'
In my most humble opinion:
The people who say ‘natural hair’ is a trend that I encounter daily are folks who don’t have natural hair.
Go figure.
I’m sorry but if you never took a razor or scissors to your hair whilst cutting off all your perm and don’t have natural hair. You can’t speak for me.
Natural hair is not a trend.
Black girls now have more access to black women on television & in the media whom made the big chop and are showing different representations of Natural Hair.
This includes women of all shades, tones, shapes, and ethnicity.
If you don’t have natural hair and did not endure the struggles I went through after having permed tresses for over 10 years and FINALLY having the strength to embrace the natural side of ME.
You sure of hell can’t speak for me.

When you look at me what do you see?
A troubling gaze into a terrified soul?
Or a woman who unlocks heaven through the windows of her eyes.

This piece was a long time coming. I've resisted the urge to write how I feel on the given topic due to the various implications it carries, however I feel in order for those to understand, you must teach and educate those who are oblivious.
Stereotypes:
While many women going through this process may feel/do these things it generalizes each person who may have various reasons on why they are going natural.
Journey:
Stereotypes:
- ● When you have natural hair it is as if you are immediately categorized as a strong black woman, burn incense, write poetry and play Erykah Badu.
- ● Mad at sistas who wear weaves or perms
- ● Vegetarians OR only eat organic foods and use organic materials
- ● Only listen to concious hip/hop and love soul
- and typically darkskin with coarse hair

Journey:
I decided to go natural last year, September. I was in the shower and was beyond disgusted at my stringy like hair that fell off without touch. I got the scissors whilst looking in the mirror and chopped off every straight end I seen. It was not only a liberating experience. I felt more beautiful and free. I neglected my hair for soo many years and wanted to start from scratch.
From that moment on I was in the process of rebirth/revival.
Discovering myself without the perm was a interesting experience. I no longer had straight tresses, I had to discover my kinky, coily hair I was born with.
I was upset that I hidden my crown for soo long. But my throne was now uncovered.
